Pethia

Pethia est un genre de poissons de la famille des Cyprinidae. Il regroupe certaines des espèces couramment appelées « barbus ». Jusqu'à l’érection du genre en 2012 par Pethiyagoda & al., les espèces qui le constituent étaient rattachées au genre Puntius. Le mot « pethia » désigne ces poissons en cingalais, langue parlée notamment au Sri Lanka d'où sont originaires certains d'entre eux comme le barbus nigro.
